Chalupas and gorditas could be on the menu for many area residents in that not-so-distant future.
The Waconia Planning Commission discussed a site plan for a proposed Taco Bell on Marketplace Drive during a regular meeting on July 6. The project, proposed by Minneapolis-based Marvin Development IV, LLC, will be located on a parcel between Co. Rd. 10, 13th St. W and Marketplace Drive. The commission tabled the discussion until the next meeting.
According to documents submitted to the city, the fast food restaurant will have nearly 700 sq. ft. of dining area, will also feature a 254 sq. ft. patio area and a drive-thru.
In the discussion, the planning commission did not some issues with design that would require variances from the city in the future – including the amount of “accent materials” used in the design, and the differences between the front treatment and the side and rear treatments. Marvin Development has requested that the design be accepted “as-is,” which will necessitate a public hearing and further review by the city planning commission in the future, should the plan get the commission and city council’s blessing.
A Taco Bell has long been on the wish list of many area residents, and joins national names like Subway and McDonald’s as fast food purveyors in the city. In addition, a Culvers is currently under construction at the Waconia Crossings site along Hwy. 5, and city planners are anticipating the submission of a site plan for a proposed Burger King restaurant in the coming months.
