Waconia man dies after St. Cloud assault

A Waconia man has died following an altercation in the early morning hours on Saturday, Aug. 5.

According to the St. Cloud police department, officers were dispatched around 2:39 a.m. after an assault was reported near the intersection of 9th Avenue and South 7th Street in St. Cloud. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the alleged victim, Anthony Quinn Shriver, 22, of Waconia.

Officers determined that Quinn and his group of friends had been involved in a verbal disagreement with another group. According to the report, the disagreement culminated in 21-year-old St. Cloud resident Travis Allen Johnson punching Shriver in the face.

Officers located Johnson a short distance away, and he was arrested and taken to Stearns County Jail. Johnson was issued a citation for 5th degree assault.

According to the report, Shriver showed no visible signs of injury. Reports state that Shriver complained of a headache, but ultimately refused medical attention and left the scene.

On Saturday afternoon, officers were dispatched to home in St. Cloud on a report of an unresponsive male, who was later identified as Shriver. First responders attempted to resuscitate Shriver, but were unsuccessful. Shriver was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to results of an autopsy performed by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office, Shriver’s cause of death was trauma consistent with the reported assault.

Johnson turned himself into authorities on Saturday evening and is being held in Stearns County Jail on a charge of 2nd degree murder, according to authorities.
