Fatal crash, another injured in separate accident

A Waconia Township woman was killed in a one-car crash on Highway 5 on Wednesday, Aug. 30, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

According to the state patrol, Kelly Anna Roush, 36, was eastbound on Hwy. 5 near Waconia at around 4 p.m. The patrol reported Roush’s 2008 Subaru Outback crossed the lanes of traffic for an unknown reason, crashed through a fence and into a ditch on the north side of Hwy. 5, near Co. Rd. 51.

Roush was pronounced dead at the scene.

The state patrol reported dry road conditions at the time, and noted that Roush was wearing a seatbelt. Alcohol was not involved in the crash, according to the state patrol.

The incident remains under investigation.

Another area man was injured in a four-vehicle accident in Sibley County, according to the state patrol.

On Aug. 29, Logan Alexander Fernandez, 29, of Cologne, was eastbound on Hwy. 5 near 196th St. in Green Isle Township at around 6:41 p.m. According to the state patrol, Fernandez attempted to pass a 1998 Ford Conventional semi, and side-swiped the semi. Fernandez’s 2005 Pontiac Sunfire entered the westbound lane and collided with a 2012 Buick Lacrosse, driven by 40-year-old Joleen Harriet Dose of Arlington. The driver of the semi, John Orlin Meyer, 56, of Green Isle, hit the brakes and subsequently lost control of the rig, according to the state patrol. The semi collided with a westbound 2013 Ford Crew Pickup, driven by Lee Earl Wieman, 53, of Arlington.

Meyer was transported to Ridgeview Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries; Fernandez was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, while his passenger – a 3-year-old girl – was transported to Arlington Hospital; Wieman was transported to Arlington Hospital with non-life threatening injuries; and Dose was transported to Arlington Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
