The West Side Storm seventh grade spring basketball team made another impressive showing last weekend at the Spring Challenge Tournament in Plymouth. After losing their first game to the Hustle, the Storm fought back to win the next three over BPAA , Andover, and FSA. The Storm went on to defeat Wayzata for the title. The team includes, front row: coach Dan Leary, Jake Nelson (Dassel), Thomas Leary (Minnetonka), Nick Fulford (Waconia), Trever Kaiser (Dassel), and coach Chris White; back row: Kobey Woolhouse (Howard Lake), Christian Honnold (Waconia), Zach Uter (Howard Lake), Carter Jones (Waconia), and Gram Ims (Minnetonka).

The Westside Storm seventh grade boys’ spring basketball team made an impressive showing last weekend at a tournament in Shakopee. In their first games of the season, the Storm advanced to the championship game and claimed second place. The team is made up of players from Waconia, Minnetonka, Dassel, and Howard Lake area schools. The Storm include, front row: Kobey Woolhouse (Howard Lake), Christian Honnold (Waconia), Carter Jones (Waconia), and Gram Ims (Minnetonka); back row: coach Dan Leary, Zach Uter (Howard Lake), Thomas Leary (Minnetonka), Nick Fulford (Waconia), Trever Kaiser (Dassel), coach Chris White, and Jake Nelson (Dassel).

The Waconia 12-1 JO volleyball team recently won a tournament in Mankato on March 24. The girls beat teams from LeSueur, Kasson, Glencoe, and Mankato for the title. The team includes, front row: Holly Weinberger, Abby Hendricks, Mia Severson, Sarah Braland, and Lilliana Plagge; back row: Emma Carver, Ally Dirnberger, Shelby Jacobson, Kali Wolf, and Sophie Osterberg.

Lauryn Mattson, a Waconia High School freshman, recently won the Level 10 all around title at the USGA Courtney Kupets Gymnastics Invitational in Savannah, Georgia. Mattson medaled in all four events, with scores of 9.175 on floor, 9.275 on beam, 9.1 on bars, and 9.6 on vault, for a meet-winning total of 37.15. Mattson is a member of the Legacy Gymnastics Club in Eden Prairie. Other local members of the club include Natalie Shaw (Clearwater Middle School), Desirae Stanton (WHS 2012), and Jessie and Jada Rondeau, of Norwood-Young America. Stanton took home a seventh-place medal. The next event for Mattson and the other Legacy gymnasts is the Minnesota US Gymnastics Association Level 10 state meet in Sauk Rapids.
